Guide: converting PDF to images

Converting a PDF to images is useful to share individual pages on social media, upload to platforms that don't accept PDFs, extract a page as a high-quality image, or create previews and thumbnails.

PNG vs JPG: what changes

OutputBest forResult
PNGCrisp text, charts, perfect qualityLarger files, lossless
JPGPhoto-heavy pages, smaller sizeLighter files, possible quality loss

Scale: quality vs performance

1.0 is fast with basic quality. 1.5 is a good balance and our default. 2.0 provides more detail but requires more RAM and processing time. For most uses, 1.5 is recommended.

Large PDFs

If the PDF has many pages or heavy images, rendering can be slow especially on mobile. Try scale 1.0 or convert fewer pages at a time.

Privacy

The PDF is processed in your browser via pdf.js. It is not uploaded to any server. All rendering happens locally on your device.

FAQ

Is the PDF uploaded online?
No, it is processed in your browser using the PDF.js library. No data leaves your device.
How can I increase image quality?
Increase scale to 2.0 for higher resolution. This produces crisp images suitable for retina displays, but rendering is slower.
Can I convert password-protected PDFs?
Password-protected PDFs may not be supported. Try removing the password first with a dedicated PDF tool.
